Electricity bill to go high if consumption goes beyond 500 units

bill

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KSEB has decided to change the billing process to charge more amount on night usage of electricity from those whose monthly electricity consumption is higher than 500 units.

This decision is taken after the KSEB took into account the situation where electricity must be purchased from outside as consumption at night time has increased considerably. This month the night usage of electricity was 3931 MW. Last month it stood at 3886 MW.

The aim of KSEB is to reduce the usage of electricity at night and to lower the amount of electricity bought from outside. The bill amount will increase for household consumers and for the commercial and industrial consumers using more than 20 KW connected load.

The KSEB will take the average of usage of electricity of a consumer during January-February and also during July-August months. If the usage exceeds 500 units, then the electricity charged will be on a time basis.

From morning six-o-clock to six in the evening, the normal rate is charged. From evening six to 10 pm the rate will increase by 120%. From 10pm to morning six, the amount charged will be increased by 90% of the normal rate. The bill must be paid every month also.
