THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An app for taking meter reading of drinking water and paying bill on our own by using a smart phone, is ready. The app is called K-Self. The Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, will officially release the app on 21st at the Jal Bhavan at Vellayambalam. The app was developed by Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC).
The app must be downloaded from Play Store and our mobile number must be registered. When our consumer number is given, we will get our last meter reading. When we give our new reading, the app will show our water usage and the bill that must be paid. The picture of the meter showing the reading must be uploaded. Following this, we can pay through the payment gateway using our ATM card. The Water Authority will get a copy of the bill.
The bill that was bi-monthly will be now monthly, once the app becomes operational. The bill can be downloaded 30 days later. There will be 15 days to pay the bill without fine.
Meter Readers will continue to go to the houses of those who do not use the app. As their app have the information of who all are using K-Self, the readers won’t go to their houses.
