THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The North Indian gang that is involved with vehicle scam pretending military as their background is using fake ID card with photos that have officers in their military uniform. People are being fooled with pictures of the army parcel center, bills for booking a parcel in the military and CISF control room. All these are fabricated, says the army. Soldiers have a grocery card for purchasing goods from the military canteen. This is what most scammers send through WhatsApp.

They scam through websites like OLX saying due to immediate transfer they are forced to sell their vehicle at a low price. The documents are for convincing the people who call after seeing the ad. This may be the real ID of soldiers or fabricated. The RC, insurance, and military parcel center soldier details will all be sent through WhatsApp. They convince that the pictures of the vehicle cannot be sent since it is inside the military center and parcel service will deliver it to the doorstep. They ask for Rs 5000 to Rs 15000 as a parcel charge and send a QR code or payment link to send money. Sometimes they say the transaction was not successful to scam more money out of people.

Scammers use details of vehicles posted for sale on OLX earlier. The fact that details of the vehicle can be obtained with the registration number makes their scam much more convincing. After the scam is done they won't be available on phone.
'People should stay alert. This scam is using fabricated military ID and pictures - Military spokesperson
