KOCHI: Malayali cricketer S. Sreesanth has opened up about his relationship with Harbhajan Singh following the infamous “Slapgate” controversy during the Indian Premier League 2008. Sreesanth revealed that he has cut off all ties with Harbhajan and has even blocked him on Instagram.
In an interview with a leading Malayalam media outlet, Sreesanth said he had never spoken negatively about Harbhajan in any interview before, but this was the first time. He said there were no major issues between them until recently. However, Harbhajan allegedly did an advertisement based on the old Slapgate incident and earned around Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1 crore from it.
Sreesanth claimed that Harbhajan later called him and asked if he could share the advertisement on Instagram. “I told him, ‘I will forgive, but I will not forget.’ If someone does something wrong to us, we should forgive them, but not forget it. If we forget, they may repeat it. He is the biggest example of that,” Sreesanth said.
He added that he no longer has any relationship with Harbhajan. “I used to see him like an elder brother, but in the last one or two months, after that advertisement came out, I blocked him on Instagram,” he said.
Sreesanth also said his parents taught him to forgive mistakes but never forget them. “I have no complaints against him, and I don’t need him in my life. I wish him and his family well,” he added.
He further mentioned that Harbhajan has spoken about his daughter in interviews, including one with Ravichandran Ashwin. “People may think he is a very good person when they see that. Maybe he is good sometimes. But from the time I played in the Indian team till now, what I have seen is just acting. I cannot accept that,” Sreesanth said.
