Unusual and fascinating events often occur during air travel. While news reports usually highlight worrying incidents, many heartwarming moments also happen on flights. One such event — a wedding in the United States — is now grabbing attention. Weddings on flights are not entirely new, but this one was special.
Typically, in-flight weddings are preplanned, with advance notice given to passengers to avoid inconvenience. However, a wedding aboard a United Airlines flight in the U.S. came as a surprise even to fellow passengers. The groom and his friends had turned it into a secret challenge, which made this “sky wedding” truly unique.
The wedding was conducted in utmost secrecy. Jake Meli and Abigail Power, from New Jersey, exchanged vows aboard the United Airlines flight, much to the amazement of other travellers. The couple stood up mid-flight, and it was only then that passengers realised a wedding ceremony was taking place.
When the groom informed the airline about the wedding, he specifically requested that it be kept secret. The ceremony was brief, after which the cabin crew served cake and champagne to the passengers, marking the conclusion of the celebration. Jake revealed that the idea came to him after attending a friend’s wedding on a cruise ship, inspiring him to have his own wedding in the skies.
