Kerala records 10% rainfall shortfall during monsoon season

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The southwest monsoon continues to remain weak in Kerala due to the influence of the El Niño phenomenon. The state has recorded a 10% shortage in rainfall during this monsoon season. From June 1 to 16, Kerala received 287.2 mm of rainfall against the expected 320.3 mm. A major rainfall deficit was recorded in Wayanad (42%), Idukki (32%), Thrissur (23%), and Kasaragod (20%) districts. Thiruvananthapuram received the highest rainfall, with 35% more rain than expected.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today due to the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
