CHENNAI: The wedding documentary of South Indian actress Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan, titled 'Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale', has once again run into legal trouble. A new complaint alleges that the Netflix documentary used behind-the-scenes visuals from the film Chandramukhi without permission.

The 2005 Rajinikanth-starrer featured Nayanthara as one of the lead actresses. AP International, which owns the copyright of the film, has filed a lawsuit seeking Rs 5 crore in compensation for the unauthorised use of its footage. Acting on the petition, the High Court directed Dark Studio, which produced the documentary, to respond. While Dark Studio claimed efforts were being made to settle the matter outside court, AP International denied such discussions.

This development follows an earlier case filed by actor Dhanush, who objected to the documentary featuring clips from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The movie, produced by Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Shivan, starred Nayanthara in the lead role.

Nayanthara had previously released an open letter criticising Dhanush for refusing to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for using the film’s visuals. The controversy sparked widespread debate in Kollywood. Despite objections, the documentary was released on Netflix with the disputed clips, prompting Dhanush to move to court.
