NEW DELHI: Union Minister Suresh Gopi and CPM Rajya Sabha member John Brittas clashed during the discussion of the Waqf Bill in the upper house on Thursday. Suresh Gopi was incensed when Brittas’ said that the people of Thrissur made a mistake in electing Gopi to the parliament.

Brittas also raised the ‘Empuraan’ issue, which MoS Suresh Gopi retorted in a style mimicking his macho movie roles.

"Everyone, regardless of caste or religion, provides food and facilities to those who come to Attukal Pongala. That is the culture of Kerala. Some people are shedding crocodile tears in the name of Christianity. Munna from Empuraan can be seen on the BJP benches. Kerala will recognize Munna.

As we closed BJP’s account in Nemom, another constituency in Kerala warrants immediate attention. It will be closed too. Not a single person from Munambam will lose their house; this is the assurance from LDF government,' said Brittas.

Suresh Gopi said that more than 600 families were tricked in the coastal town of Munambam. He also alleged that the CPM had killed more than 800 people. Suresh Gopi then challenged CPM to dare allow movies such as ‘TP 51’ and ‘LEFT RIGHT LEFT’ to be screened again in the state.

CPI's P. Santosh Kumar said that Parliament is not a place to show low-level political animosity and demanded that the remarks be removed. CPM members Brittas, V. Sivadasan and A.A. Rahim entered the House wearing black shirts.
