BAREILLY: Jyoti and Jitendra Kumar got married two months ago after nine years of love. The same Jyoti strangled Jitendra to death the other day during an argument. That too, with the help of her father and mother. The incident took place in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Thirty-three-year-old Jitendra Kumar Yadav was discovered hanging in his rented house in the Izzatnagar area. Initially, everyone believed he had committed suicide. However, the locals and his family were shocked when the postmortem report revealed that he had been strangled to death. The police launched an investigation and soon turned their attention to Jyoti. It was uncovered that Jyoti, along with her father, mother, and brother, was responsible for Jitendra's death. After strangling him, they hung his body from the window grill to make it appear as though he had taken his own life.
Online gambling, dispute over money
Jyoti and Jitendra fell in love during their student days. After nine years of romance, the two got married on November 25. According to the police, the marriage took place with the consent of both families.

Within a few weeks, disagreements and issues arose regarding money. Jitendra withdrew Rs 20,000 from Jyoti's bank account, and later, Jyoti discovered that he had lost the entire amount through online gambling. This escalating problem led to further conflicts between them. On January 26, they had an argument over money that resulted in a physical altercation.
Jyoti called her parents and brother to their rented house. She and her husband, Jitendra, originally from Bhaupora village in Etawah district, were living in a rented home in Girja Shankar Colony, located in the Izzatnagar area, after their marriage.
Suicide?
The police report states that when Jyoti called for help, her father, Kalicharan, mother, Chameli, and brother, Deepak, rushed to the house. A physical fight ensued and Jyoti's family restrained Jitendra by holding his hands and feet. Jyoti strangled him to death after that. Once Jitendra became motionless, they attempted to stage the murder as a suicide. They hung his body from the window grill using a muffler and then notified the neighbours, claiming that their son-in-law had committed suicide. The police initially concluded that it was a suicide, finding nothing suspicious at the scene on January 26.
Complaint filed
Jitendra's brother, Ajay Kumar, filed a complaint with the police expressing his suspicions regarding the circumstances of Jitendra's death. As a result, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Jyoti and three others, and ordered a post-mortem examination.
The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was asphyxiation and strangulation. Subsequently, the police upgraded the case to murder and intensified their investigation. Jyoti's brother, Deepak, has also been named as a suspect. The police are currently working to trace and arrest him.

Confession
Police reported that Jyoti confessed to the crime and provided all relevant information during her interrogation. Jyoti revealed to the investigating officers that she had known Jitendra since their student days. Jitendra worked as a contract employee at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, a well-known government research facility located in Bareilly. Meanwhile, Jyoti was employed as a contract bus conductor with the Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation.
In the weeks following their marriage, arguments about financial issues became increasingly common. On the day of the incident, a significant argument escalated. During this altercation, Jyoti called her family for support. In the heat of the confrontation, her parents and brother intervened and restrained Jitendra. Jyoti admitted that, in a fit of anger, she strangled Jitendra to death.
