MUMBAI: More details have emerged in the hit-and-run case in which a woman got killed by a speeding BMW. As per reports, the BMW car was driven by the son of a senior Shiv Sena leader of the Eknath Shinde faction. Mihir Shah (24) was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident and it is reported that he was drunk while at the wheel.
The BMW car belongs to Rajesh Shah, deputy leader of Shiv Sena in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. The Driver and Rajesh Shah's son Mihir Shah were inside the car during the accident. According to police, Mihir Shah is still at large while his phone is in switch-off mode. The driver and the Shiv Sena leader have been taken into custody.
The incident took place at 5:30 am this morning in Worli, Mumbai. Kaveri Nakhwa and her husband Pradik Nakhwa of the Koliwada area of Worli were returning in their scooter after buying fish. A speeding car suddenly came out of nowhere, making Pradik turn his scooter to avert a clash. In the blink of an eye, Kaveri landed on the car bonnet as Pradik's effort went in vain. The car didn’t stop after the crash. Kaveri was rushed to the hospital but couldn’t be saved. Pradik also suffered injuries.
According to details from the Police, Mihir Shah visited a bar in Juhu on Saturday night and was heavily drunk. Before heading home, he insisted the driver for a long drive. On reaching Worli, Mihir replaced the driver and took over the wheels. There was a Shiv Sena sticker on the front glass of the car.
Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde termed the incident ‘unfortunate’. He also assured strict action in the matter. "The law will take its course. All are equal before the law. I spoke to the police. "Strict action will be taken," said CM Eknath Shinde.
