CHERPP: An old woman who was found dead at her home in Kadalassery was found strangled by her grandson. Police team led by Thrissur Rural SP Aishwarya Dongre has arrested a man who killed his grandmother to get money for drinking. 32 year old Gokul was arrested in connection with the mysterious death of 78 year old Kausalya, wife of the late Velayudhan, Oomanpilly, Kadalassery.
Kausalya was found dead in her bed at around 7 pm last Friday. Although it was thought that she died of heart attack, the absence of the bracelet and the necklace raised suspicion. Police arrived at the spot and questioned the relatives. Gokul was taken into custody on Sunday and was questioned.
The bracelet which was pledged at a financial institution was taken into police custody. He spend most of the money for drinking with his friends. Kausalya lived alone when her children moved out. Gokul is the son of an eldest son who lives nearby. Gokul is addicted to alcohol. When he asked her bracelet to pawn, she refused. So he grabbed her from behind, then laid on the ground and sat on her body. He later covered her nose and mouth, then took a pillow and strangled her to death. The necklace could not be pledged because it was fake.
