Woman in Kozhikode harassed for seven years, husband, mother-in-law arrested

KUTTIADY: The police arrested Jamsheer (36) of Devarkovil, husband of a pregnant woman, who committed suicide, and her mother-in-law Nafeesa (65). Asmina (28) of Narikkatteri in Nadapuram was found hanging at her husband's house under mysterious circumstances. A special investigation team led by Nadapuram DySP V V Latheesh arrested the two. A case has been registered for domestic violence and abetment of suicide. The accused produced before the Nadapuram Judicial Magistrate Court have been remanded.

Asmina was found hanging at her husband’s house on March 13. The Thottilpalam police registered a case of unnatural death and conducted an investigation in the beginning but later the Nadapuram DySP took over the investigation. Evidences for harassing her at her husband's house for the past seven years were obtained. The investigation of the case expedited after the incident was widely discussed on social media. The police hinted that there is a possibility of more arrests in the case. An action committee was formed demanding the arrest of all the accused in the case related to Asmina's death.
