Cop injured during vehicle inspection in Kochi; Case registered for murder attempt

KOCHI: There was an attempt to endanger a policeman during a vehicle inspection in Ernakulam. ASI P N Santhosh of Ernakulam North Station sustained injuries. The car moved forward for about 20 meters with the officer on the bonnet. When the driver applied a sudden brake, Santhosh fell on the road. The shocking visuals of the incident have emerged.

The incident happened on Kaloor Deshabhimani Road at around 11.30 pm on Wednesday night. A team led by Santhosh was conducting a vehicle inspection in the area. The car arrived while the police had stopped the vehicle near ACM School and was on inspection.


The car slowed down and suddenly moved towards the officers on seeing the police. After hitting Santhosh, who was standing on the side of the bonnet, the car drove away without stopping. The police have intensified search to find the accused. The FIR says the accident was caused by a Baleno car.


It has to be clarified whether there were drugs in the car or whether the driver was under the influence of drugs. The North Police has registered a case under sections including murder attempt. The ASI sustained injuries on both his legs, thighs, head and other part of the body. He is presently undergoing treatment.
