THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George paid a lightning visit to the Peroorkada District Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The minister arrived at the hospital at 8.20 am today and spent about two hours in the hospital. She visited the emergency department, various OPs, wards, pay wards and the ECG room and listened to the complaints of patients and staff. The minister left her official vehicle and reached the hospital with the director of the health department in his vehicle.
The first visit was to the OP sections. Except for Ophthalmology OP and Dental OP, other departments were not functioning. Many patients were waiting at the Medicine OP but the doctors did not come for examination. The situation was similar in the Ortho section.
When inquired about the doctors in the OP department, she was informed that many were doing rounds. The minister immediately went to the wards and examined the case sheet and found that the doctors had not reached there either. Moreover, it became clear that the rounds in the wards were not regularly done. She then directed the director of the health department to check the attendance of staff, including doctors, and take strict action.
