PATHANAMTHITTA: The body of Ranjitha G Nair of Pullad in Pathanamthitta, who died in the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash, has been brought to her hometown. The body is kept at Vivekananda School at Pullad in Pathanamthitta for the public to pay homage. Ranjitha is a former student of the school and her son is also studying here.
The body brought to the Thiruvananthapuram airport at 7 am, was received by ministers V Sivankutty and G R Anil on behalf of the state government.
The district administration has declared a holiday for the school where the public viewing is being held and nearby schools in connection with the funeral of Ranjitha. After the public homage, the body will be taken home by noon. Minister V N Vasavan will pay tributes on behalf of the state government. She will be laid to rest at 4.30 pm.
Ranjitha's body was identified through a DNA testing the other day. Her body was identified 11 days after the tragedy. The result was delayed because the DNA sample of her brother Ratheesh, who had reached Ahmedabad, did not match. Later her mother Tulsi’s samples were collected from her hometown and sent it to a lab in Gandhinagar for testing. Her brother received the body yesterday. Her jewellery, shoes, and bag, which were found from the spot of the accident, were also handed over to her brother.
The accident happened when she was flying to UK from Ahmedabad. She was a nurse there. She leaves behind her mother, two brothers and two children-a son and a daughter.
