Karyavattom campus fracas: Non-bailable arrest warrant against MLAs M Vincent, Chandy Oommen

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sreekaryam police registered a case against MLAs M Vincent and Chandy Oommen for besieging the police station in protest against not arresting the SFI students who beat up the KSU district joint secretary. A non-bailable section was imposed against the two MLAs. A case has also been registered against 20 KSU activists.

Sanchos, an MA Malayalam student of the Karyavattam campus, was beaten up by SFI workers on Tuesday night. When Sanchos reached the men's hostel on the campus with his friend, the SFI gang led by Ajant Ajay, son of former Ottapalam MP S. Ajayakumar, brutally beat him up. Sanchos was seriously injured and was taken to Sreekaryam Police General Hospital.

Sreekaryam station was besieged under the leadership of M Vincent around 1:30 am on Wednesday, demanding the arrest of those who attacked Sanchos. Chandy Oommen also reached the spot at 2 am. An altercation broke out between SFI and KSU workers in front of the police station. There is a complaint that M Vincent MLA was pushed and injured by SFI workers.

Meanwhile, a civil police officer was injured in stone pelting by KSU workers on Wednesday. A case has been registered against SFI district president Nandan, activists Ajant, Niranjan and 20 people for gathering in front of the police station. The VC directed the Registrar of Kerala University to inquire into the incident and submit a report.

The opposition will present the matter as an adjournment motion in the Assembly on Thursday.
