NEW DELHI: A recent report states that the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has directed authorities to register a case in connection with the marriage of the Kumbh Mela viral star in Kerala. The report cites complainant Pratham Dubey.
Dubey told the media that the Commission is not satisfied with the action taken by the police so far. He added that Kerala Police have informed him that a case can be registered once the necessary documents are submitted.
The Commission had earlier summoned senior police officials from Madhya Pradesh and Kerala, along with the young woman’s parents, and recorded their statements. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Thiruvananthapuram Range appeared on behalf of Kerala Police at the hearing.
Following the hearing, the woman’s parents also addressed the media. According to reports, charges under the POCSO Act may be considered against the man involved in the marriage. However, Kerala Police have maintained that the woman was 18 years old at the time of the marriage. Officials stated that all procedures related to the marriage were carried out in accordance with the law.
