
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of two women lawyers as judges of the Kerala High Court. The recommendation to elevate Senior Supreme Court Advocate Liz Mathew Anthraper and Kerala High Court Advocate A.K. Preetha has been forwarded to the Central Government.
Liz Mathew Anthraper is the daughter of the Mathew Antrapper–Mariyamma couple of Panampilly Nagar, Kochi. Her husband, Ragend Basant, is a Senior Advocate and the son of former Kerala High Court judge, Justice R. Basant. They have two children: Tara Basant and Nikhil Basant.
A.K. Preetha (Preeta Aravindan Krishnamma) is a native of Chittoor, Kochi. She is widely recognised for leading the legal battle that secured compensation for an eight-year-old girl harassed by the Pink Police in Thiruvananthapuram. Preetha is the daughter of the late Adv. B.R. Aravindan Nair (Peerumedu, Idukki) and Krishnamma. Her husband is Dr. S.S. Giri Shankar, Principal of St. Dominic's College of Law, Kanjirappally.
