IDUKKI: Tamil Nadu has opened more shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam in the backdrop of rising water levels. Authorities informed that the nine shutters, which were opened at 8.30 pm, will be raised further (120 cm) to release 12654.09 cusecs of water. People living along the banks of the Periyar river have been asked to remain alert.
Tamil Nadu has announced that more water will be released tonight by opening the spillway shutters. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been sounded for the Idukki dam due to heavy rains in the catchment area. The water level reached 2401 ft. The district administration decided to declare the orange alert as the water level in the reservoir was gradually rising due to the inflow of water from the Mullaperiyar Dam.
