THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reading will now earn students 10 grace marks in the SSLC examinations, announced Education Minister V. Sivankutty. The new policy will be implemented starting this academic year. He made the announcement while delivering the presidential address at the state-level inauguration of the 30th National Reading Festival, organised under the auspices of the P.N. Panicker Foundation.
The idea of awarding grace marks for reading emerged during discussions held with editors and education experts. To be eligible for these grace marks, students must read newspapers, magazines, and books and maintain a written record of their reading. The minister also emphasised that teachers must monitor and evaluate the students’ reading activities.
