Siren sounded upon receiving air warning; nationwide mock drill completed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The civil defence mock drill conducted in various parts of the country as per the instructions of the Union Home Ministry has been completed. It was conducted from 4 pm to 4.30 pm. The mock drill was held in 259 civil defence districts of the country, including all districts of Kerala. It was conducted in 126 places. The mock drill was organized to prepare the public to face the situation of conflict in the country following the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

The siren that lasted for 90 seconds was sounded, and instructions were given to the public, including officials, on how to survive the emergency situation. The civil defence system was activated following the message sent by the Air Force to the control rooms set up in various parts of the state. The main task of the drill was for the fire brigade. Under the leadership of the Chief Secretary, the Collectors acted as the Controlling Officer and the District Fire Officer as the Nodal Officer.

Sirens were sounded in the district headquarters after receiving the air warning. The drill was conducted in crowded places including shopping malls and movie theatres. A drill to evacuate people to safe places in case of an emergency was also conducted as part of the exercise.
