THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IMD has issued a red alert for one district of Kerala with heavy rain certain to make landfall in the state on Saturday. As per instructions, Malappuram is on one red alert today. According to IMD, Heavy rainfall is defined by t as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
An orange alert has also been announced in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are on yellow alert today. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts are likely to experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph during the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Center, heavy rain will continue in the coming days. A red alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts for the coming days. Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts are on orange alert. A yellow alert has also been announced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.
