Tiger tranquilized and captured by forest department in Vandiperiyar dies

IDUKKI: The tiger sighted at the estate in Aranakallu in Vandiperiyar died soon after it was tranquilized and captured by the forest department. The officials shot the tiger that ran towards the mission team. The tiger, which did not fall unconscious even after tranquilizing twice, hurried towards two of the mission team. The officials shot the tiger after it hit the helmet and shield of one of them. The mission team shot the tiger for self-defense. This led to the death of the tiger, said the forest department.

A veterinary team reached Aranakallu this morning and inspected the area after a tiger with an injured leg bit to death a dog and a cow in the area at around 2 am today. The veterinary team caught the tiger after an hours-long search. The forest department had informed that the tiger would be taken to Thekkady for treatment. In the meantime, the tiger died.
