KOCHI: The Kochi Metro Rail project has become the hallmark of Kochi, the metro city of Kerala. With the water metro also becoming a reality, many other states in India are preparing to learn from Kochi. Now, the Metro Rail authorities have come up with a move that will give a new impetus to the tourism sector. The project is to rent ferries to enjoy the beauty of Kochi Lake.

Water metro boats will be rented to private individuals and groups at a rate of Rs 15,000. This rate is for one hour. The advantage of the project is that one can enjoy the beauty of Kochi Lake in a boat with air conditioning facilities. Employees of many institutions have expressed interest in booking ferries where they can go on a fun trip together.

The authorities are hoping that domestic tourists and foreigners will come forward to take advantage of this facility. The Water Metro started operating about a year and a half ago. The Water Metro is a project used regularly by the people of Kochi like the Metro Rail. Thousands of people use this facility every day. Passengers also say that travelling to and from offices in a calm environment, away from the hustle and bustle of the road and air pollution, provides mental relaxation.
