THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Syndicate has decided to reappoint Dr. K. S. Anil Kumar as the Registrar of Kerala University. The resolution moved by Left member Muraleedharan Pillai was supported by 20 members including Left members and Congress representative Y. Ahmed Fasil.
BJP members Dr. Vinod Kumar, T. G. Nair and P. S. Gopakumar opposed it. They demanded that the extension of the term is against the rules and that fairness should be ensured, leading to an uproar in the Syndicate for about an hour. The Syndicate considered the orders giving reappointment to the Examination Controller and Finance Officer. Finally, the recommendation for reappointment was accepted by VC Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal. The VC signed the reappointment order yesterday.
Two IAS officers and representatives of the higher education and IT secretaries attended the meeting. The Congress member pointed out that the functioning of the university would be affected if there was no registrar.
Dr. Anil Kumar was reappointed for a period of four years. He has been the registrar since 2021. He is also the chairman of the state-level monitoring committee of the four-year degree program.
Retired teachers for four-year courses:
The syndicate meeting decided to appoint retired teachers of government and aided colleges in the four-year degree courses in Karyavattom. There are 18 vacancies. The list prepared by the committee headed by DYFI leader Shiju Khan for the appointment of guest teachers had been cancelled by the High Court. In the absence of a university union, the meeting rejected the VC's proposal to directly organize a youth festival by the syndicate.
