Will not ignore problems of fishermen; Rs 2,450 crore for rehabilitation: Chief Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in the Assembly that the government's position is to stand with the fishermen and assured that their problems will not be ignored. 'The government is willing to discuss the issues and are not hesitant about it. Those who lost their homes will be rehabilitated by providing rent.

A massive scheme of Rs 2,450 crore has been formulated for those who need to be rehabilitated. Housing complexes will be constructed at Muttathara, Karode, Beemapally in Thiruvananthapuram, West Hill in Kozhikode, Ponnani, Niramaruthur in Malappuram and Koipady in Kasargod. Most of the title deed applications of coastal residents are under CRS and have approached the Centre for a solution. The insurance coverage has been increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The kerosene issue has been brought to the attention of the Union Fisheries Minister. 10 areas having high sea attacks were turmed as hotspots.
