KANNUR: Yet another elderly woman has been bitten by a snake in Pattuvam, Taliparamba. The victim, Narayani (77), a native of Kavungal, was bitten on the hand by a saw-scaled viper while cleaning the surroundings of her house on Sunday at around 4 pm. She was rushed to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital and is currently on a ventilator.

Meanwhile, Nabeesa (65), who was undergoing treatment after a snake bite on Friday afternoon, died early this morning. She was bitten near her house in Pattuvam. The snake is suspected to be a common krait.

Nabeesa had collapsed at home and was first taken to Taliparamba Co-operative Hospital and later shifted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital. She was given anti-venom, but her life could not be saved. She is survived by her husband Ahmed, daughter Fathima, and son-in-law Kabir.

In a separate incident in Thodupuzha, Vishalakshi (86), wife of late Vasu, also died after a snake bite. She was bitten on Saturday around noon while plucking mangoes from a tree near her house. Vishalakshi, who lived alone, managed to inform a nearby house but collapsed soon after. Though she was taken to the hospital, she could not be saved. Forest officials conducted a search in the area but were unable to find the snake.
