KOLLAM: Vilanthara, the small hamlet in Kollam, bid a tearful adieu to Midhun, the 13-year-old boy who died due to electrocution at his school on Thursday. Thousands, including teachers, friends and locals, had gathered at Midhun’s residence in Vilanthara to pay their last respects. Midhun is the eldest son of Manu and Suja. It was Sujin, Midhun’s younger brother, who lit the pyre during the final rites, which took place at 4:30 pm.

Suja, accompanied by two family members, nearly collapsed on seeing her son lying motionless in the freezer box. Heartbreaking scenes ensued after Suja broke down and wailed uncontrollably, joined by others from the family. It took much effort from family members to move her from the area.

Suja arrived at the Nedumbassery airport from Kuwait at around 9 am this morning and was received by her bereaved husband, Manu, and their younger son, Sujin.

Suja went to work as a home nurse in Kuwait to help her family come out of poverty. However, all hopes were dashed as the heartbroken mother had to return home immediately after learning about her son’s tragic death while playing near school on Thursday.

Meanwhile, hundreds thronged into Midhun’s residence in Vilanthara to pay final respects.
