THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kalamandalam Sathyabhama said that she is facing brutal cyber-attacks following her remarks that black complexioned people should not participate in Mohiniyattam competition. In a Facebook post, she said that her family is being dragged into the issue and insulted. She said that she did not mean to hurt anybody.

Sathyabhama alleged that the media twisted her statement given on YouTube channels and that she is facing massive cyber-attacks. She added that her family and privacy are being dragged and are trying to insult her and that her interview was not meant to hurt anyone. This is the first time that Sathyabhama has reacted in such a way regreting for her remarks. Even when the media sought a response earlier, she stood firm on it.

When the issue sparked a controversy, cultural activists and various political parties came forward. 'A mohini should always play Mohiniyattam. He has the complexion of a crow. Mohiniyattam is an art form that requires a stance keeping the legs wide apart. There is nothing more repulsive than a man performing with his legs wide apart in this manner. If men are performing the art form, they should be good-looking. Aren't there good-looking men? If you see him, even his own mother will not tolerate it,' this was Sathyabhama's remark.
