PALAKKAD: Party state secretary M V Govindan reaffirmed CPM’s support for P. Sarin, stating that regardless of the outcome of the Palakkad by-election, the party will treat him as "the apple of its eye." Speaking to a private channel, Govindan emphasized that Sarin represents a bright future for the CPM, contrasting him with former party member P.V. Anwar, who he claimed never fully embraced communist ideals.
Regarding the recent arrest of PP Divya, Govindan defended the police's actions, calling the opposition's allegations "absurd." He indicated that the party would deliberate on possible disciplinary measures against Divya, stressing that no announcements would be made to the media at this time. Govindan criticized the media for adopting an "anti-democratic stance" in their coverage of the situation.
Divya was arrested following the rejection of her earlier bail application. Reports suggest that her hiding in the party's Kannur stronghold and subsequent arrest may have been influenced by internal party dynamics. The CPM’s Kannur district committee plans to address the issue, amid mounting criticism and pressure.
Amidst these developments, ADM's wife's comments have intensified scrutiny on the party. While Divya remains in police custody, awaiting the verdict on her previous bail application, the party continues to publicly support her. It has been noted that the party's youth wing has also rallied behind Divya, although there are concerns about how the situation could affect the party’s reputation.
