'It is not right to consider mortality rate as a sign of success in preventing an epidemic'; fight against Covid not a competition, says Sreejith Panickar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sreejith Panickar has lashed out at Health Minister Veena George's recent interview regarding the Covid figures in Kerala. Sreejith Panicker criticized the minister for saying that the death rate in Kerala was low and that things were going well. 'The health minister was seen claiming that the Covid death rate in the state was lower than that of other states and that
things are going well. In that case, it can be said that Kerala failed when 17 out of 19 people infected with the Nipah virus died,' Sreejith wrote on his Facebook page.

Sreejith Panickar, who rejected the arguments given by Kerala on the grounds of contact tracing, low positivity, and low mortality, asked the minister to make a logical argument. He also mocked the minister by stating that the fight against Covid was not a competition item and that 'there is no trophy for the state that emerges as No 1 by beating other states.'
