BJP leader Dr K S Radhakrishnan, in a Facebook post, vaguely blamed a high-ranking minister within the government for shielding actor Shine Tom Chacko despite being aware of the actor's proximity to drugs.
Dr K S Radhakrishnan:
Who is Shine Tom Chacko's saviour?
"It is an open secret about the role of a high-ranking minister within the Government who always comes to Shine’s aid. Another one is a superstar in the industry who acts as the protector-in-chief. Shine Tom Chacko escaped by jumping from the third floor of a hotel when police arrived after getting a tip-off about drug usage. It was just two days before that he was found innocent in a 2015 drug case.
The verdict now points a finger at the role of the police in helping Shine come out of the case. The 2015 case was not investigated following due procedures, and loopholes were intentionally created to help the actor wriggle out. I also heard that Shine’s close friend and the superstar actor helped him come out of the mess. Film activist organisations like AMMA and FEFKA are also aware of this.
The fact is that none of them took any effective action. The government is conducting massive campaigns against drug menace while filmmakers are revelling in the banned stuff, giving no hoots about the government action. It is frightening that ministers, political leaders, and celebrities are coming together as these culprits' saviours. Moreover, there are allegations that some lawyers and the police in Kochi city are colluding in this matter.
Why are our government leadership, political party leadership, and star organisations afraid of the drug mafia? Smuggling, black market, and black money have been a part of cinema since the time of Haji Mastan.
Now, drugs and terrorist groups are interfering with the cinema. The Chief Minister should take an active interest in this matter. It is a legal obligation to report a criminal offence to the police if you become aware of it. Why didn't the cinema association report the incident to the police?"
