KOCHI: The main accused A Anil Kumar, has been arrested in the birth certificate forgery case in Kalamassery. The special team took him into custody from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. He was the administrative assistant of Kalamassery Medical College. He went into hiding soon after the police registered a case.

The arrest procedures were completed by a team led by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner Baby. The accused has been brought to Kochi. He will be produced before the magistrate today itself. The police said Anil Kumar needs to be questioned in detail.

Anil Kumar misused his position as an administrative assistant to create a fake birth certificate. Anil Kumar was working in the office of the Superintendent of Kalamassery Medical College. A complaint was filed by Rahana A N, who works in a kiosk at Kalamassery municipality. The accused forged the birth certificate for a baby girl born to one Anoop Kumar and Sunitha. The accused inserted it into the register being handled by the complainant without her knowledge.

He was arrested when the court was to pronounce verdict on his anticipatory bail plea. The case is that an attempt was made to get a birth certificate for an illegally adopted child. The Kalamasery police have registered two cases under the charges of forgery and fraud. OP and IP documents were created in the name of the woman, who did not reach the hospital.
