KABUL: Taliban has now banned the use of contraceptives among women in Afghanistan saying it is a western theory to stop the Muslim population. According to many international agencies, fighters of the Taliban have taken it religiously to patrol the streets threatening women and asking pharmacies to clear the pending contraceptives from shelves. Many shop owners, who have piled contraceptives stay in ambiguity not knowing what to do with them. The pharmacies are in fear to sell their existing packets lest it comes to the Taliban's notice. The new rule laced with theocratic ideology adds up to the other list that includes banning the education of girls, ousting women from the workplace, and religious practice of the burqa. The hard string rules are coming anew every time since the ascension of Taliban power in 2021 August.
One in every 14 Afghan women dies of causes related to pregnancy and it is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to give birth.
