Paragliding accident: NOC of the institution in Varkala will be cancelled

kk

VARKALA: The Varkala municipality will cancel the NOC it issued to the paragliding institute which caused the accident in Papanasam. A council meeting will be held for this purpose. Chairman KM Laji said that the municipality is taking action as it was found that the institute was operating illegally.

The municipality had given permission to Fly Varkala Adventure Sports Private Limited to operate in Papanasam subject to nine conditions. The main condition was that the institute should enter into an agreement with the municipality and obtain a valid license when it starts functioning. However, the institute did not even inform the municipality when it started functioning. It also violated the rule prohibiting adventure sports, including paragliding, within a 200-meter radius of the area that includes the main beach and Bali Mandapam at Papanasam. The accident occurred on Tuesday when the paraglider got stuck in the high mast light on the main beach.
