8 things to look out for before buying bottled water

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said that the quality of bottled water sold in the state should be ensured. The Food Safety Department will conduct testing of bottled water across the state from today. Inspections are conducted by forming separate squads in all districts. Strict action will be taken under the Food Safety Act if unauthorized and fake bottled water is sold.

The minister also stated that the action of the food safety department is due to the possibility of increase in water borne diseases in summer. As the heat continues, the people who drink bottled water must also be careful. Dehydration is more likely due to hot weather. So, drink water every now and then even if you don't feel thirsty. Make sure the water you drink is clean. Only ice made from fresh water should be used in drinks. The Food Safety Department is conducting special inspections during summer. There are a few things to keep in mind while drinking bottled water bought from stores. Otherwise, it will cause health problems.

Things to watch out for:

1. Make sure that the bottled water has the ISI mark.

2. Make sure that the seal of the plastic bottle is not broken.

3. Do not use bottled water with a broken seal on the bottle cap.

4. Must ensure that the drinking water in cans is also sealed.

5. Do not store bottled water or soft drinks in the shops in direct sunlight. Avoid buying such drinks.

6. Hanging plastic bottles filled with drinking water and other soft drinks in direct sunlight in shops and taking them to the vehicles for distribution in a similar way can create many health problems.

7. When plastic bottles are exposed to the sun for a long time, there is a possibility of chemical leakage from it which is harmful to health.

8. Do not carry bottled water and other beverages for distribution in open vehicles exposed to the sunlight.
