THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a relief to the summer heat, several districts in the state received rain on Wednesday. There was rainfall in Pathanamthitta, Kochi and Kottayam districts in the afternoon. Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts have received rain in the last three hours. It is reported that rain is continuing in isolated places. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that 9 districts of Kerala will receive rain during the night.
According to the notification of IMD, there is a possibility of rain with thunder at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts and wind gusting up to 40 km per hour.
Meanwhile, a high wave alert has been issued on the Kerala coast. The National Centre for Ocean Studies and Research has informed that there is a possibility of 4 to 9 meter high waves and rough seas in the Kerala coast till 11.30 tomorrow night. As rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Fishing vessels must be safely moored in the harbour. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured and trips to the beach and recreational activities at sea should be completely avoided.
