Muslim League State Council on Saturday: PMA Salam likely to continue as general secretary

league

MALAPPURAM: The Muslim League Council will meet on Saturday at 11 am at the Kozhikode League House to elect new state office bearers. 19 office bearers, including the president and general secretary, a 21-member secretariat and a 75-member working committee will be elected. As many as 485 delegates and ex-officio members will participate.

Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal will be re-elected as president. An agreement has been made at the leadership level regarding other key office bearers. PMA Salam may continue as general secretary. Salam became the state general secretary after KPA Majeed resigned to contest for the assembly. The general opinion within the League is that Salam was able to move the organizational system efficiently. Salam also has the support of the Kunhalikutty faction. His working style under the party president is also a favourable factor.

Although MK Munir has his eyes set on the post, he is facing challenges such as ill health and a lack of interest from Samastha. Another panel may be presented against Salam under the leadership of MK Munir, KM Shaji, ET Muhammad Basheer and KPA Majeed. However, they have not been able to find a publicly acceptable figure against Salam. It won't be easy for them to overcome the decision of the Kunhalikutty faction. Sadiq Ali Thangal has warned that things should not go to the point of public sectarianism.
