KAZHAKKOOTTAM: Police seized Brazilian-made firearms and deadly weapons from a goon gang and arrested two people in Kadinamkulam. The arrested have been identified as 31-year-old Shahul Hameed, a native of Varkala's Rathikal, and Manal (32), a native of Malamelparamb in Kaniyapuram. Another accused in the gang, Fawas, a resident of Channankara, has not been caught. Another gun and an air gun were recovered from the house of Manal.
The incident took place last night around 11 pm near Channankara Anakappillai Bridge in Kadinamkulam. Three people on a bike got into an argument with the youth standing on the road. Then a person got off the bike and brandished a knife to attack. The accused shouted at the locals and tried to attack them several times.
Hearing the commotion, more locals came to subdue the gang, but Fawas escaped on the bike. A gun, a sword and a knife were found on the two arrested persons. After coming to know about the incident, the police took them into custody and started the investigation. The first pistol to be seized was a Brazilian-made one. Manal told the police that the gun was brought from the Middle East. According to the police, Shahul Hameed is accused in many cases including sexual abuse, and the preliminary conclusion of the police is that he does not have a license for any of the firearms. Attingal DYSP interrogated the accused. Locals say that the gang was hired to kill someone.
