NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has issued a notice on the plea filed by the accused Mohammed Nisham against the life sentence in the case of killing Chandra Bose, who was a security guard, in Thrissur. The notice was sent to the opposing parties in the case including the state government.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi and advocate Haris Beeran, who appeared for Nisham, pointed out in the court that Nisham has been in prison for the past nine years. Following that the court sent a notice on Nisham's demand to grant bail as well. The notice was sent by a bench comprising Justices AS Bopanna and Hima Kohli. The Supreme Court had earlier sent a notice on the petition filed by the state seeking a death penalty for Nisham.
