NEW DELHI: As per reports, Delhi Police has registered a case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, head of the Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP, in sexual harassment complaints. Later, Brij Bhushan expressed his willingness to resign as the president of the wrestling federation. Brij Bhushan is a six-time MP and a powerful BJP leader in the Ayodhya region.

The action took place after Solicitor General Thushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court that he would file a case while considering the petition filed by the wrestlers. The senior wrestlers are continuing their day and night strike at Jantar Mantar against the fact that seven wrestlers, including a 16-year-old girl, have complained to the police but no action has been taken.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to assess whether there is any threat to the life of the complainant, a 16-year-old wrestler. The court also said that there is no obstacle for the police to assess the safety of the other six stars. Kapil Sibal, counsel for the petitioners, raised concerns about the safety of the 16-year-old. The information was handed over to the court in a sealed envelope. The court directed the police commissioner to submit an affidavit before May 5 stating the measures taken for the complainant's safety.

The Solicitor General was also instructed to hand over the documents submitted to the court by the female wrestlers in sealed envelopes to the Commissioner of Police. The Commissioner of Police shall maintain the confidentiality of the information contained in the records. The petitions will be heard again on May 5.

Complaint

  • There are 14 cases against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh including attempted murder
  • The wrestlers have complained that they have had a bad experience since 2012 from Brij Bhushan, who has been the head of the wrestling federation since 2011.
  • An inquiry committee was formed last January, but nothing happened
  • The wrestlers demanded that the complaint should be investigated under the leadership of a retired judge.

Wrestlers to continue their strike

Wrestlers will continue their strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar until Brij Bhushan is arrested. "We have faith in the Supreme Court. The fight will continue until Brij Bhushan is punished", the wrestlers said.

“Recently, Usha mam had tweeted that some people tried to illegally occupy her academy land by resorting to hooliganism. Tell me, wasn’t the nation’s image getting tarnished that time?” If being a Rajya Sabha MP nominated on the BJP ticket, she can’t save her academy land, how could you expect normal wrestlers like us to wage and win a fight against (Brij Bhushan) Singh. Usha mam has disappointed our whole community with her statement.”, Bajrang Punia said.
