Kizhakoot Aniyan Marar led Ilanjithara melam begins; pooram fever hits Thrissur

THRISSUR: Ending the long wait of ardent 'pooram' devotees, the Ilanjithara melam started its pulsating beat anchored by Kizhakoot Aniyan Marar. Meanwhile, the Thiruvanmbadi Pandimelam will be led by Cheranelloor Sankarankutty Marar. More than 250 percussionist joins the Iljathithara melam which is considered the heartthrob and the sought-after experience during the festive times. Veteran Kongod Madhu led the Pancahvadyam— (an orchestra including five instruments) inside the temple premise.

The ceremonial entrance of “Kanimangalam Sastha” opened doors to this year's festival in Thrissur. At 5 pm evening, Pandimelam will be performed for the ritual 'Thekkottirakam'.The Kudamattom ceremony in the evening will see the palates of colorful parasols being gloated with a challenging game asking the other group to showcase their collections.

On May 1, the famous fireworks display will start at 3 am morning. Nearing the end of the festive days comes 'Pakal Pooram' followed by traditional “Upacharam Chollal” which starts at 12 noon and will officially call curtains to this year's colorful and inimitable Thrissur pooram.
