NEW DELHI: The petition filed by Rahul Gandhi seeking exemption from appearing in court in the defamation case has been rejected. The petition was dismissed by the MP/MLA Court in Ranchi.

A man named Pradeep Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in Ranchi. The case was filed pointing out that the remarks made by Rahul during the election campaign in 2019 were insulting to the Modi community. Surat Court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment for the same remark. Following this he was disqualified from the post of MP by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Rahul asked why all thieves have the same surname ‘Modi’. Surat's former minister and MLA Purnesh Modi filed a complaint saying that this remark has insulted the Modi community.
