10 killed after three-storey building collapses in Meerut

MEERUT: Ten people were killed after a three-storey building collapsed in Meerut. The drastic incident took place in Zakir Nagar area around 5.15 pm on Saturday. 15 people were inside the building at the time of the incident. 11 people were brought out from the debris but ten among them died.

Sajid (40), daughter Sania (15), son Saqib (11), Simra (one and a half years old), Reza (7), Nafo (63), Farhana (20), Alisa (18) and Alia (6) died in the accident. As soon as the incident occurred, the police, fire brigade and later the National Disaster Response Force arrived and carried out rescue operations. Nine of the dead are members of the same family.

The owner of the building ran a dairy farm on the premises. So more than two dozen buffaloes were trapped in the rumbles. They were also brought out. Senior police officials have reached the spot and are coordinating the rescue operation. On September 7, a three-storey building collapsed in Lucknow, killing eight and injuring 28.
