KOCHI: Former Kerala cricket team captain and KCA Apex Council member K Jayaraman (Jayaram-67) passed away due to a heart attack. He was a right-handed batter who performed well for the Kerala Ranji team in the 1980s.
In the 1986-87 Ranji, he scored four centuries in five matches and came close to getting selected for the Indian team. He scored these centuries against top teams like Karnataka, Goa, and Tamil Nadu.
Jayaram was the captain of the senior and junior teams of Kerala. He played 46 first-class matches. He scored 2,358 runs including 5 centuries and 10 fifties. He also played for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
After retirement, he served as the chief selector of the Kerala team for many years. He also served as the Chief Selector of the U-22 and U-25 teams. He was also a member of the National Junior Selection Committee.
In 2010, he became a BCCI match referee. He officiated six List A matches and two First Class matches. Wife: Rama Jayaraman. Son: Abhay Jayaraman.
