THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSEB has restored the power supply to Greenfield Stadium after Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) promised to pay the Rs. 2.5 crore dues. The India-South Africa T20 cricket match is scheduled on 28th of this month when the KSEB decided to cut the power supply in order to pressurize the management of the stadium to pay its due.
The management of the stadium had not paid the electric bill for two years. KCA agreed to pay the amount because of the upcoming match between the two countries.
The KCA had given a written agreement to pay the KSEB on a timely basis. They have also transferred Rs. 50,000 has a token advance. The KCA informed the KSEB officials that they would get the amount from the government and once the amount is received all the dues will be paid in a onetime payment.
Though, KSEB approached the management company of the Stadium, Kariyavattom Sports Facilities, many times but they did not respond. KSEB had cut the power supply two months back but restored it once the company paid up Rs.2 lakhs. However, KSEB resorted to cut the power supply again after the company went back on its promise to pay Rs. 50 lakhs on 3rd September.
There is a lease with KCA for fifteen years to conduct competitions in the stadium.
The Greenfield International Stadium has a capacity of 40,000 people. The stadium is undergoing maintenance work before the international match on 28th of this month. The maintenance work to the gallery and the flood lights are in the final stages.
