Hawala money extortion: Lorry owner surrenders in court

PALAKKAD: The owner of a tipper lorry involved in the alleged extortion of Rs 4.5 crores of hawala money by stopping a car on the Puthusherry highway last Saturday surrendered in court. The owner of the tipper used to block the car with the money, Santhosh (35), surrendered in the Palakkad JFCM 2 court yesterday. The court remanded him in custody for four days. It is reported that the police have recovered about Rs 2 lakh from him.

Last Wednesday, Kasaba police arrested three accused from different places. Vijil (35), a native of Thrissur Eastkodali, Aziz (34), a native of Kongadu in Palakkad, and Manikaseri Vinod (45), from Kolappadam, were arrested. They were produced yesterday morning in the JFCM 2 court in charge of Judicial First Class Magistrate Court 1 and remanded. Investigating officer Kasaba Inspector NS Rajeev said that they will be taken into custody the next day.
