VENJARAMOODU: Dr Shahana's mother cried out, "No daughter should have to sacrifice her life for dowry. He should get the punishment he deserves."

Dr Ruwais led a protest advocating for the safety of female doctors when Vandana Das was murdered. However, when it came to his own relationship, his ideals seemed to fade away.

Shahana and Ruwais developed a friendship that blossomed into love over six months. Ruwais proposed marriage to Shahana on November 10 receiving positive feedback from her family regarding his credentials as the fiery leader of the PG Doctors Association.

During discussions at Ruwais's house, Shahana's family was stunned by the substantial dowry demands put forth by Ruwais's family. Despite reservations, Shahana's brother Jasim was reluctant to cancel the proposal due to his sister's deep affection for Ruwais.

However, Ruwais remained firm in his demands even publicly asking her ‘If you can give a BMW car to me, I’ll marry you’ causing Shahana immense distress and pushing her towards depression. This turmoil compounded the grief from her father's recent passing due to cancer leaving the family financially strained.

Jasim, Shahana's brother expressed his disappointment, stating, "He loved money. True love would not have abandoned my poor sister."
