NEW DELHI: EV Ramakrishnan's 'Malayala novelinte desakalangal' clinches this year's Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for Best Literary Criticism. President Madhav Kaushik announced that the award comprising a plaque, a shawl and a cash prize of one lakh rupees, will be conferred on March 12 at the academy's headquarters.

The book secured the honour after being chosen by a jury panel composed of Dr PS Radhakrishnan, Subash Chandran and Dr George Onakkur. Notably, among the eligible works for this year's award were nine poetry collections in 24 languages, six novels, five short story compilations, three essays and a single literary review.

Hailing from Valayangode, Kannur, EV Ramakrishnan is a bilingual author who writes in Malayalam and English. Retiring from Gujarat Gandhinagar Central University in 2015 after a remarkable 42-year teaching tenure, he later assumed the title of professor emeritus at the same institution. In 1995, he was honoured with the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award for his work 'Aksharavum aadhunikathayum.'
