CHENNAI: The wreckage of the Indian Air Force fighter jet that went missing eight years ago has been found in the Bay of Bengal. The wreckage of the AN-32 Air Force fighter plane that had 29 people on board has been found. On July 22, 2016, the plane went missing over the deep sea while en route from Chennai to Port Blair in Andaman. The search for the plane had been going on for the past eight years.
The wreckage of the aircraft was found during the inspection by the National Institute of Ocean Technology under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The discovery was made at a depth of 3400 meters from the sea level. The wreck lies at the bottom of the bay, about 140 nautical miles (about 310 km) off the coast of Chennai. It is reported that more inspections will be conducted at the site in the coming days. It is believed that the wreckage found belongs to the Indian Air Force plane since there is no previous history of missing warplanes in this area
